recycling

Recycling plays a vital role in all of our lives. This is particularly true at Homewood Disposal and its sister company Diversified Recycling. We began recycling in the 1980s primarily recycling cardboard from commercial businesses. In 1990 our first residential recycling effort began with the Village of Homewood. Today we collect curbside recyclables from 29 communities.

Diversified Recycling processes several thousand tons of recyclables every month. These recyclables include cardboard, newspaper, junk mail, magazines, plastic bottles, aluminum and tin cans, and glass bottles. The processing facility has implemented technology to accept these materials in a mixed form (referred to as single-stream). Feel free to contact us for a tour of this modern plant.

Once the material arrives at the processing center it is sorted by type and prepared for market. The markets vary by material and are located throughout North America and even abroad. We continue to look for new markets as to expand the types of material that we can collect for recycling.

You are an important link in this recycling process. Please consider recycling to extend the life of the natural resources we have been blessed with. You can make a difference!
